Donate to the Fund the Arts campaign
After 25 years of waning government support it's time to put arts on the agenda. Not just because the creative economy employs 408,000 people & contributes $117bn to GDP each year, but because it defines and shapes our culture. It’s what defines us as a nation.
Germany recently provided an additional €1bn into the arts to deal with the impacts of COVID and a further €50bn to small business and freelancers - assisting many in the cultural, creative, and media sectors - dwarfing Australia’s contribution. For the 13th wealthiest nation on earth, we can and need to do a lot better than this. We’re campaigning for $2.5bn for the arts leading into the election.
Donate if you want to see more money for Australia art on screens, speakers, walls, stages, & pages. If you want our schools to generate the next wave of Australian musicians, actors, writers, and artists. And if you want more support for small and local Australian artists.
Creativity in Crisis: state of the sector
It’s not just COVID, decades of neglect has led the arts sector to crisis. Read Ben Eltham and Alison Pennington’s report
"New employment opportunities are more likely to require skills which are resistant to mechanisation. Creative skills, requiring original thought and innovation, are particularly resistant and are likely to face relatively higher demand in the future."
